The New York Post minced no words Tuesday morning when it called Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a "piece of s**t" on the front page, noting that the outspoken leader "flashes 'love' at the UN but spews anti-Israel hate."
"We've got a finger for you, too, Mahmoud," Kate Sheehy wrote.
On Monday, Ahmadinejad said the Jewish state had "no roots" in the Middle East and would be eliminated.
"Iran has been around for the last seven, 10 thousand years. They (the Israelis) have been occupying those territories for the last 60 to 70 years, with the support and force of the Westerners. They have no roots there in history," he said.
"We don't even count them as any part of any equation for یر an. During a historical phase, they (the Israelis) represent minimal disturbances that come into the picture and are then eliminated," he added.
Reuters said the fiery Ahmadinejad ignored "a U.N. warning to avoid incendiary rhetoric ahead of the annual General Assembly session."
"The United States quickly dismissed the Iranian president's comments as 'disgusting, offensive and outrageous,'" Reuters added.
"Ahmadinejad showed again that he not only threatens the future of the Jewish people, he seeks to erase our past," said Israel's U.N. Ambassador Ron Prosor, who walked out on Ahmadinejad's speech.
"Three thousand years of Jewish history illustrate the clear danger of ignoring fanatics like Iran's president, especially as he inches closer to acquiring nuclear weapons," he added.
Ahmadinejad also dismissed warnings that Israel is close to launching an air attack on Iran to destroy the nuclear complex that many countries say is working to develop nuclear bomb-making capability.
“Fundamentally, we do not take seriously the threats of the Israelis,” he said. “We have at our disposal all the means to defend ourselves.
